kids are excited about all the toys and they have very bad judgements for getting what the proper toys for them. They are confused sometime in the toy store and they do not know what they really want. They think they want something but they do not play with the toys after we bring them home. It is hard to persuade two stubborn toddlers in the candy land. Most time, we end up with extra toys they play only for a couple of hours.
We try to teach them the value of working. The same sentences have been repeatedly used regularly. They are: if Dad and Mommy do not work and then we cannot live in our house, we cannot buy food, we cannot watch TV, and we cannot pay daycare tuition. We can buy toys only when we have money left. It has been said so many times, so they certainly understand. They are willing to send me to work because if I do not work, they cannot have toys. They also have been told the allowance of each week and if they want bigger, better toys and then they will need to save their allowance. Most time, this does make sense to them, they will be fine for some weeks. However, if their shopping urges kick in, they must have something. We try not to have a battle with them, instead, we would take them to the nearby "Dollar Tree" to get a small toy at one dollar value or to the "Party store" to get some small things. They are very aware of their allowance, only one dollar. They can spend a long time in the store, just look around and decide which one they should get. My kids are easy to be pleased. They are happy as long as their request for a trip to a toy store has been fulfilled, no matter whether we go to an expensive toy store or a cheap one.
Children are attracted by all the advertisement on TV or Cables. My kids want everything shown in Cartoon network. Everything looks better on the Screen and they are deceptive to our Young viewers. I try to explain that to them, but it usually does not go too well. They usually hold my face with their little hands, and then tell me to look, look on the screen, some little friends are really loving the toy. The Lego has excellent advertisements on TV. Even the Lego toys cannot move but the commercials always show the moving monsters or vehicles. They are similar to most of the kids' products, the advertisements do not reflect the real products.
David saw the Pixos on the TV, the product they showed is as tall as a 10-year old, but the real beads in pixos are so small. He told me many times that he wants that, even after I told him, it is a girls' toy. I am quite sure that my boys do not have a long enough attention span to play the pixos, but he insisted to take a look. I took him to Target and let him see the real size of Pixos beads and Pen. He changed his mind right away and did not want the Pixos anymore. We went to Starbucks to get some pastries on our way home, they were very satisfied.
The Santa has called my husband to get the Christmas wish lists from our children. One wants Lego Crystal King (Power Miners), Screature interactive dinosaur (Mattel) or Zhu-Zhu pet (the moving hamsters). The other wants Lego Star War, Pillow Pets, Battle Force Five cars.
I do not know why they choose complex assemble toys, such as Lego or Playmobil, since their motor skills are not fine enough to put the small blocks together and their comprehension is not good enough for assembling complicated objectives. K'NEX 4X dragsters Mega-build actually is better choice. The blocks in K'NEX sets are slightly bigger than lego and the designs are simple and fun. My children can actually follow the instruction sheet to build their motorcycle or small cars. The cost of K'NEX is much cheaper than Legos.

The Mega blocks is a better choice for their age; they build a lot of things from them. My children got the Magna-tiles building set for their birthday which is the most fun building toy I have ever seen. With these color magnetic tiles, My children can build different strictures and objective for a long time. The other good one we have is Magnex which is very unique as well. They can easily be assembled and have different gears. Different from the Magna-tiles that provides endless combinations and open designs, Magnex has limit shapes and it can only build closed structure such as boxes, houses.
Dinosaurs have been Tom's favor animals and toys. He has different dinosaurs books describing many things about dinosaurs, from species, food, behavior, and habitation etc. Because my husband himself is a big Dinosaurs fan, Father and Son always read dinosaurs books together. Tom has a dinosaurs stick book, so he can stick different dinosaurs with his brother and me. We also play the small plastic dinosaurs, we line them up and play the dinosaur migration. David s loves playing the geologic dig in the Museum of Science. All my boys have their hearts on these amazing ancient creatures. As a result, there are dinosaurs everywhere in my house already. Plastic dinosaurs, electronic dinosaurs, dinosaurs stickers, dinosaurs books, the land before time DVDs, and a live animated "child" sharp-tooth pretended by Tom.
They saw Zhu-Zhu pets on TV, the mobile hamsters are very cute, moving along the trial and house. I am not sure if they will enjoy this so much. They got some moving weasels from the Aquarium, they played them only at the very beginning and lost interest very soon. Because the motion is fixed, these moving hamsters may not provide enough excitements and diversity for them. The same is the pillow pets, they are quite, but we have serious doubts that they will play them.
Battle Force Five is one of the Mettle cartoon. Cars are actually the safe thing to buy for them. They can always play them and there are never too many of them.
I have discussed with their" Santa", what should we get them this year? The verdicts are KNEX mega-build, Magna-Titles, small cars, some clothing, shoes and a lot of hugs.
