Loose Skin after Pregnancy

I ate right and exercise regularly during my pregnancy and I gained almost 40 pounds. After the C-section, a busy life with twins and regular exercise, my weight rapidly returned to normal. However, my belly skin has been stretched out for 38 weeks which left a sheet of loose, wrinkled skin. I was wondering about how to restore my skin elasticity? To me, surgical procedure is not a good option since I just had one not too long ago. Surgical procedure always poses potential risk no matter how small it is. In addition, the skin is loose and hanging but it is still alive, it may adapt my physiological changes. I checked some belly butter creams, it may help the dryness and appearance of the skin. I have doubts about their real therapeutic effects. The better than Botox cream, StriVectin-SD did improve the color and wrinkles however, it does not help with the loose skin.

The skin is the integumentary system, the largest organ in our body. It contains multiple layers of mesodermal tissue. Skin provides protection of underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. It stretches during the pregnancy and becomes loose with a drastic weight loss after delivery. When I had my loose birth mark, I thought it would be impossible to get it back to the pre-pregnancy status. The nature did surprise me, and my body did return itself to the normal. All the wrinkled, loose skin disappear completely when the twins were three years old.

It takes more than a month for the uterus to contract to its normal size. all the cells the swelled during pregnancy need to become small. In addition, the extra fat built for nourishing the baby needs to be burnt off. It takes time to see noticeable results.
Eating right (fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, fish, flaxseed), and drinking enough water helped me to gain energy, lose weight and provide nutrients for my skin. I did some crunches but not in a regular base because it hurt my back. I should have done as many crunches as I could every day. I walked every day for 30 minutes, and I put the regular vitamin E lotion to the skin at night. It did not happen as quickly as I wanted but it did happen. Swimming seemed to help tightening my belly. After one year, it looked O.K.; after two year, it was much better but some wrinkles were there; after three years, everything was as good as new. Up today, it remains mysterious to me the mechanism of skin elasticity recovery. I do not know how the body did it. By regeneration of skin cells to regain elasticity or by body absorption of some old, unused skin cell or by regeneration and reorganization of the skin or by all of them or by some other amazing routes?

The bottom line is that your body will get rid off the loose skin caused by pregnancy as long as you eat right and exercise well. Do as many crunches as you can and do the whole body exercise, such as swimming. It takes time but it will recover naturally.
