I always wonder if my husband has obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) specific to cleaning. He would not tolerate any dirt on the floor or stain on the carpet. If my children jump off the table, bump into a glass of juice and then they fall. My immediate response is to save the children and check it they are O.K. first. However, my husband's response is to save the carpet, he must clean first, although obviously he is a loving father. It is kind of funny to watch his cat-like reflexes for saving the carpet. I often laught at him, and suggest removal of all carpets in the house. But the answer is No, always. With two boy toddlers in the house, he has a very busy job. It is a full-time work load for a working daddy to clean after them. It may be something related to his German ancestor genes.
I completely agree with the description given by their teacher is that, they have very good table manner but the food can be all over the floor. They would offer bread and juice to the others around the table during meal time, they also say "excuse me" when they ask for something. But, they drop cook crumbs, drip juice all over the place when they eat. I can trace cook crumbs to find them in a hide-and-see play. Even worse is that they draw on furniture and touch Daddy's flat screen TV. Any of them will set off my husband's OCD. The flat screen TV incidences were the worse episodes; I will need to write about them next time.
After watching so many live-carpet rescue missions, I find my husband's secret tricks on cleaning and maintaining the carpet.
- Do not walk on carpet with dirty shoes.
- Vacuum carpets right away if there is dirt or dry food.
- Remove food immediately when it falls on the carpet. Use web clean clothes to wipe off any liquid; use Resolve Triple action to wipe off the spot. Dry food such as cook crumbs can be vacuumed.
- Prevention is better than cleaning, but it will not happen until my children turn 12 or older.
- For liquid spills, quickly use paper towels to absorb any liquid first, do not rub rashly that cause smear stain. Use a wet clothe with vinegar or non-chlorine detergent to clean the spot right away. Spills can become a stain.
- Never leave carpet to be wet, mold can grow in the carpet. So use a lot of Bounty. Do not use hair dryer to dry the carpet, it generate permeate stains.
- Use proper carpet cleaner for carpet stain, such as Resolve TRIPLE action, the foam one does not work at all.
- Steam cleans the carpet once every six months. We have a Hoover Steam Vac with clean surge 5914-900 at home, it works very well. After cleaning, the carpet needs to be air dry for hours.
If one is really busy, he can always hire somebody to clean the carpet. Professionals will get the job done. We used Sears carpet cleaning service once, it was not too bad. It was fast and convenient. I am super lucky, because we get the best Daddy cleaning service at home.
